Help us to be people of character

Let’s look at someone who is often over looked in the Christmas story…Joseph. Matthew 1:19 tells us one very important thing about Joseph, he was a righteous man. We see Joseph showing Mary mercy in the fact that he did not publicly disgrace her. What stands out the most to me is that Joseph was a man of obedience. He didn’t walk by his feelings, he listened and obeyed without always knowing what tomorrow would bring. Joseph’s character always shined through. What a great earthly father Jesus had to watch growing up. When life was tough, Joseph always did the right thing, because he was rooted and grounded in the love and word of God. This man that is so often over looked has so much to offer us, He was a man of integrity, he was a man of mercy, he was a man who was righteous, and he was an obedient man. As we end one year and begin another, is their someone you need to offer mercy too? Has God called you to do something that you need to be obedient too? Let’s be people of character that others may see the love of Christ shining in us. We may know very little about Joseph, but what we are told speaks volumns of his character.

Father, help us to be people of character. Help us to look more like you and less like us. Create in us a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within us. In Jesus Name. Amen
